FW190A-5 Hans Philipp "Minke Pinke"

Just in case you haven't been checking out this build over on WorldWarII Aircraft.net here are some more progress shots of Minke Pinke.

RLM74, 75, 76 sprayed on using Vallejo Air. I used various darkened and lightened shades of each colour to add tonal variation to the paint scheme. This is meant to show how the paint scheme would change in colour as a result of being subjected to the elements. As the rule goes alway work from dark to light colours. Experienced modelers have been doing this for years so my technique is not new. Some call it the 3 layer blend technique but its not new either. It's bit hard to see due to the gloss coat but you can see a better example of what I am talking about by looking at the third picture of the underside of the aircraft. Here you can see a bit the varying colours inside and around the panel lines. I never use paints straight out of the bottle.

FW190A-5 Hans Philipp

Work on the cockpit is nearly complete. Here are some pics. Painting was done with RLM66 darkened and lightend to give highlights and shadows. I used the Photoetch seatbelt harness and cockpit instruments that came with the kit.

FW190A-5 Hans Phlipp

So, I am presently looking to outfit my A5 in the livery of Major Hans Philipp. Here's one of the A5's he flew as Kommodore of JG1 during the defense of the Reich operations.

And here is the 206 Kill Experten himself holding one of Dachshunds. In fact his aircraft "Minke Pinke" was named for his two little Dachshunds. Unfortunately Philipp was shot down and killed during a dogfight with P47's of the USAAF 56th Fighter group on October 8, 1943. Although hit and badly burned he managed to bail out of his stricken FW190A6 but fell to his death when his parachute did not open.

1/32 Hasegawa Ki-61 Hien. Tokyo Defender.
This is my latest build. This Ki-61 was flown by Major Teruhiko Kobayashi Commander of the 244th Sentai that was responsible for the air defense of Tokyo in early 1945. Hope you like it.
